Book Shops
Greenwich is the sort of place that turns one’s thoughts to the joys
of reading--or at least browsing--through books. It’s long had speciality
bookshops like Maritime Books in Nelson Road, where Anthony and Seticia
Simmonds offer one of the country’s best ranges of new, second-hand books
on naval and maritime history; general interest ones like Greenwich Bookshop
on the corner of College Approach and King William Walk; or second-hand
hardback and paperback books at Marcet Books in the little alley leading
from Nelson Road into the covered market.
The list goes on: there’s a bookshop specialising in remainders--and calling itself just that; and no account of the ubiquitous book scene in Greenwich would be complete without reference to the Spread Eagle Bookshop, specialising in antiquarian and second-hand books or The South London Book Centre in Stockwell Street--a veritable warehouse of stalls each with its own specialisation, and prints, records and comics too!
