We have had a very good meeting today, and on the basis of the substantial support received from the private sector we are happy for work on the exhibition at Greenwich to continue. This involves the conclusion of the agreement with English Partnerships and British Gas in respect of the site and the contractual relationships with the new company which is to be formed of which Robert Ayling Chief Executive of BA will be the Chairman.

Progress must now be set in hand for an early application for planning permission from the London Borough of Greenwich.

The Commission believes that we can now look forward to an outstanding exhibition at Greenwich of which the whole nation can be proud.

The Commission thanks Sir Peter Levene for his work in assessing the viability of this project,

Virginia Bottomley
Chairman, Millennium Commission.
