The long-awaited ban on heavy goods lorries through Greenwich Town Centre is to go ahead from 7 May 1996.
From that date, Romney Road on the A206--running between the Royal Naval College and the National Maritime Museum--will be closed to heavy goods vehicles (HGV’s) over 7.5 tonnes.
The ban, effective 24 hours a day, seven days a week, will prevent Greenwich Town Centre being used as a through-route for the duration of the six-month trial period. Drivers contravening the ban will face the prospect of a fine and an endorsement on their licenses.
Trafalgar Road will still be accessible to HGV’s--and a turning area at Park Row provided.
