The Priority Network aims to help buses on some 550 miles of London’s roads. Every day as many people travel on London’s buses as on London’s rail and tube services combined--some 3.7 million passengers. Traffic congestion, however, makes bus services slow and unreliable, there being little road space dedicated to buses.
In addition to the specific measures proposed to free up the circulation of buses in the five target areas in Greenwich, it is also proposed to ban stopping at bus stops except by buses--in the belief that this will not only help the bus but also make boarding and alighting easier, especially for less mobile passengers.
