Obituary

You felt yourself in France in this intimate little bistro restaurant established in 1979 a stone’s throw from the Cutty Sark.

Evening dining only from Wednesday to Saturday--except for the long lunch session on Sundays, when there are prix fixe menus (£11.75 for 3 courses, £9.95 for two--including French bread and coffee). One sat at intimate little tables with check table-cloths and considered offerings such as Quenelles of Pike Mornay (starter at £3.50); or Chicken Sauté à la Chasseur (entrée at £8.25); or to finish, Crême Brûlée with Orange and Cointreau (£2.95).

Today, not even the building that housed it remains--torn down to make way for Cutty Sark Gardens DLR station. We may well reiterate Frederick the Great's celebrated aphorism: "You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs..."
